Sensor and Device Integration

Integration of sensors, meters, controllers and third-party devices into reliable data pipelines, covering protocol translation, payload decoding, metadata and device lifecycle.

Overview

Every device ecosystem arrives with its own dialect: a Modbus register map in a PDF, a LoRaWAN payload packed into a few bytes, a vendor cloud with an undocumented rate limit. Integration is where those dialects are translated into a consistent model that applications can depend on.

We integrate sensors and devices across wired fieldbuses, low-power wireless networks and vendor APIs, preserving the metadata that gives readings meaning, including units, calibration, location and firmware version, and building the monitoring needed to know when a device stops telling the truth.

Business applications

  1. 01

    Multi-vendor sensor networks

Combine sensors from several manufacturers into one data model, decoding proprietary payloads and normalising units so analytics and dashboards never need to know which vendor produced a reading.

  2. 02

    Metering and sub-metering

Integrate electricity, water, gas and thermal meters over Modbus, M-Bus or LoRaWAN, producing interval data suitable for cost allocation, energy management and sustainability reporting across buildings and sites.

  3. 03

    Laboratory and instrument connectivity

Connect analyzers, scales and test instruments to quality and laboratory systems, capturing each result with instrument identity and calibration status to support quality and regulatory traceability requirements.

  4. 04

    Third-party device cloud aggregation

Ingest data from vendor-hosted device platforms through their APIs and webhooks, handling authentication, rate limits and schema changes so downstream systems receive one stable, well-documented feed.

Engineering approach

  1. 01

    Collect device documentation

We gather register maps, payload specifications, API references and sample data for every device type, flagging gaps early so they can be resolved with vendors.

  2. 02

    Bench-test representative devices

Physical or simulated devices are tested on the bench to confirm data formats, timing, error behaviour and edge cases before anything is installed in the field.

  3. 03

    Build decoders and adapters

Each device type gets a versioned, unit-tested decoder or adapter that translates raw payloads into the canonical schema while retaining the original data for audit.

  4. 04

    Manage device identity and metadata

A device registry records identity, location, calibration dates, firmware and ownership, linking every reading to the context required to interpret it correctly.

  5. 05

    Monitor device health

We track heartbeat, battery, signal strength and plausibility checks, alerting when a device goes silent, drifts or reports values that physics says are impossible.

Questions leaders ask

What if the device vendor's documentation is incomplete?

It frequently is. We test devices directly, compare readings against reference measurements and work with the vendor to clarify ambiguous fields. Assumptions are documented explicitly, and decoders are built so corrections can be deployed without re-onboarding devices or losing historical data.

How do you choose between LoRaWAN, NB-IoT and other options?

The choice depends on payload size, reporting frequency, building penetration, battery life targets, coverage and whether you want to operate your own network. LoRaWAN suits private, low-data deployments, while NB-IoT and LTE-M rely on carrier coverage. We evaluate options with field measurements wherever possible.

Can you integrate devices we have already deployed?

Usually. Existing devices can often be integrated through their current gateways, network servers or vendor clouds. We assess what each device exposes and whether its data quality is adequate, and recommend replacement only where integration would be unreliable or impossible to support.
