Intelligent Simulation

Discrete-event, agent-based and physics simulation, increasingly paired with machine learning, used to test decisions before committing real resources to them.

Overview

Simulation lets organizations rehearse decisions: a new warehouse layout, a revised staffing plan, a robot behaving in an unfamiliar environment. Its value depends on a model that is faithful where it matters, transparent about its assumptions and validated against reality.

We build discrete-event, agent-based and physics-based simulations, and increasingly combine them with machine learning: surrogate models for speed, reinforcement learning for policy search, synthetic data for training perception systems. We are explicit about uncertainty, so results inform decisions rather than masquerade as predictions.

Business applications

  1. 01

    Operations and capacity planning

Discrete-event models of factories, warehouses, hospitals or service centers that test changes in layout, staffing, scheduling or demand before they are made in the physical operation.

  2. 02

    Agent-based behavior modeling

Simulations of many interacting actors, such as customers, vehicles or pedestrians, that explore how local rules produce system-level effects like congestion, queuing or shifting adoption patterns.

  3. 03

    Robotics and autonomy testing

Physics-based environments in NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Gazebo for developing and testing robot behaviors, sensor configurations and edge cases that would be unsafe or impractical to stage physically.

  4. 04

    Synthetic data generation

Procedurally varied scenes and scenarios that produce labeled training data for computer vision and other models, supplementing scarce or sensitive real-world data under clearly documented assumptions.

Engineering approach

  1. 01

    Question definition

We pin down the decisions the simulation will inform, the outputs that matter and the level of abstraction needed, avoiding models more detailed than the question warrants.

  2. 02

    Data and assumption capture

Process data, distributions and behavioral rules are gathered with domain experts, and every assumption is recorded in a register that stakeholders can inspect and challenge.

  3. 03

    Model construction

Models are built in the paradigm that fits, whether discrete-event, agent-based, system dynamics or physics, using established frameworks rather than bespoke engines wherever possible.

  4. 04

    Validation and calibration

We compare outputs against historical behavior, run sensitivity analyses on uncertain inputs, and report confidence ranges alongside point results so no single number is overread.

  5. 05

    Decision support delivery

Scenarios are packaged in interfaces decision-makers can run themselves, with documentation on appropriate use, known limitations and when the model should be recalibrated.

Questions leaders ask

How do we know the simulation is right?

No model is right in every respect; the real question is whether it is reliable for the decisions at hand. We validate against historical data, test sensitivity to uncertain inputs, review behavior with domain experts and report confidence ranges so results are interpreted appropriately.

When does machine learning help a simulation?

Mainly in three ways: surrogate models that approximate expensive simulations for faster exploration, reinforcement learning that searches for good policies inside a simulated environment, and synthetic data for training perception models. Each adds complexity, so we use them only where they clearly add value.

Can our teams run the simulation after handover?

Yes. We deliver source code, documentation and a scenario interface designed for non-specialists, and we train the people who will maintain the model. Where commercial simulation tools are involved, we confirm licensing arrangements with you before building.
